Community Homes for Children
Neighborhood family-style homes for children in long-term foster care – those who are unlikely to be adopted or reunited with their families. Four homes are now open with three more in progress. An estimated 15 homes are needed.
DHS data indicate that approximately 180 Marion County children are lingering in foster care with no hope of being reclaimed by their families and little hope of ever being adopted.
The Community Homes for Children program was created to provide these children a nurturing home to call their own. The first home was opened in Keizer in 1998. It has proven that this innovative model works. We joyfully celebrated the first high school graduation of a community home youth this year – a talented young man who first came to the Keizer home in 1999 at the age of 10.
With the support of major grants, CCS opened two new homes this past year: the Woodburn Community Home and the South Salem Community Home for Girls, bringing the total number of homes to four. There are plans to open three more next year.
