St. Joseph Shelter Update

St. Joseph Shelter Update

On a sunny, crisp, fall day in October, the Benedictine Sisters welcomed Salem Harvest for a gleaning of their orchards. Volunteers, staff and the Sisters gathered grapes, apples, and figs for donation through Mission Benedict to those in need.

Salem Harvest connects farmers and backyard growers with volunteer pickers to harvest fruits and vegetables for distribution without charge to homeless, unemployed, elderly or low-income individuals.

St. Joseph Shelter and Mission Benedict are grateful for support provided by organizations like Salem Harvest, local government agencies, businesses, and individuals.

Critical major funding and support for the Shelter and the Mission’s day-to-day functions this year have been provided by Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency on behalf of Oregon Housing and Community Services State Housing Program; United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley; the Emergency Food & Shelter Program; The Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center of the Mid-Willamette Valley; Silverton Chamber of Commerce Judy’s Party Fund; the Norpac Foundation, and the Salem Foundation The Kreitzberg Fund.

On behalf of the staff and residents, Thank You!

St. Joseph Shelter is the only transitional housing program serving homeless families in the Mid-Willamette Valley outside of Salem.
